It seems like no time since the 2008 winners were announced last September and the Menu of Moyle Competition is back calling for the restaurants, pubs, cafés and coffee shops of Moyle to come forward for the third year of this highly popular contest.
This unique local eateries competition has grown from strength-to-strength as its celebration of Moyle’s local food sees competitors creating menus using at least 60% of ingredients sourced from local producers. More and more locals and visitors in are talking enthusiastically about Moyle’s local produce and enjoying the experiences offered by the Menu of Moyle competitors’ unique dishes that have been inspired by what the area has to offer. The beauty of the competition is that it is open to all types of ‘sit-in’ eating establishments across the Moyle area - so diners can enjoy the wide range of local food on offer regardless of their dining preference or budget.
Last year 21 competitors took part in the Menu of Moyle Competition. The Cellar Restaurant, Ballycastle was crowned winner of the ‘Restaurants’ class with Rathlin Island’s Manor House receiving high commendation. The Fullerton Arms, Ballintoy won the ‘Pubs & Inns’ category for the second year running and Donnelly’s Coffee Shop, Ballycastle came out top of the ‘Coffee Shops & Cafés’. Now with two successful years under its belt, Menu of Moyle is seeking Moyle’s local restaurants, pubs, coffee shops and cafés to come forward and compete in their category for the title of ‘ Winner’ Menu of Moyle 2009.
Competing establishments will be provided with window stickers identifying them to customers as participants and Menu of Moyle menu cards on which they can print the details of their local dishes and the produce they used.
More information can be found on Menu of Moyle’s dedicated website www.menuofmoyle.com which has received over 13,500 visits since it was launched in May 2007. The website includes a dedicated competing establishment’s section with descriptions of the establishments, menus and contact details.
